Get Rid of the Guns

Jarred James Breaux

Guns have been around for nearly three hundred years. They were invented as a weapon of war but later they became useful in hunting game. The American Constitution declares for all Americans the right to bear arms. This amendment was added for both private protection and protection from the newly formed government in case the experiment went wrong. Now, that idea is completely lost. No one needs protection from the government like that anymore. It is no longer a private defensive in the home, it is an offensive killing force.

Some argue that guns do not kill, rather it is the person that does. While this is true, the gun is a simple weapon of choice for criminals to commit crimes. They can invade the banks, businesses, and even the private home at gun point to get whatever they want. They can attack a single person from a long distance. Unstable people can take advantage of the gun, like any other weapon of course, to attack other people. The gun isn't necessarily the most deadliest weapon but tactically, in many situations, it is the best. While the gun is not only a tool for killing people, it has more practical uses which are usually ignored. No one can doubt that the person is the killing force behind the gun, however, it still is too dangerous to have lying around.

Accidents with guns kill a lot of people a year in America. There are almost as many people killed intentionally by a gun as there are people killed accidentally by a gun. Children can pick up a real gun and think it is a toy. They are unable to determine that the gun can so easily take a life my mistake. Just pointing an unloaded gun at someone is dangerous. Often, there is unprojected particles from the bullet left in the barrel. Those particles are still live and could be projected accidentally. Police make mistakes with guns trying to protect themselves and others. In New York City, there was a suspicious looking immigrant. Police approached the man and asked him to place his hands where they could see them. The immigrant couldn't understand English. He started pulling something out of his pocket that could have been a gun. Police acted to protect themselves by shooting first. The immigrant did not even have a gun. Accidents like this could have easily been avoided if the gun wasn't so lethal.

There are alternative weapons that are non-lethal and server the same practical purpose. Alternative weaponry could be used to "shoot now and ask questions later". With guns, you end up shooting now and really regretting it later. This would save the lives of many innocent people. Tear gas and rubber bullets are not lethal in comparison to the gun and are a popular alternative. Alternatives are a lot better, it is just to start using them.

There is no use for a hand gun at all other than to kill. The hand gun can not be used for hunting anything. It is small and can easily be concealed. The ability to hide them makes them more deadly. So you see, there are no real good reason to even have a hand gun.

Guns kill! There is nothing that can be argued with that statement. While they do provide protection, they aid in the offensive. Guns are outdated weapons of war. The streets are not war zones; therefore, why are they permitted there? Not to mention, the many accidents that happen involving guns every year. These primitive weapons are still used when there is less lethal and more practical alternatives with our present technology. The danger will not be gone until all the guns are completely gone!
