Philosophy of Natural Law

Jarred James Breaux

Obliged to respect life, morality, and property
Everyone's life is important and everything is entitled the right to live. Everyone knows what is right and what is wrong, even though it differs from person to person. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you should respect their rules. The laws of a respective region protect those people from wrongdoing according to their own beliefs. Basically: "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." Be respectful of things around you and what you possess. Feel free to envy those who have more than you, but do not let jealously motivate you to vandalizing their property. Convert your envy into a goal, and strive to have whatever you want and they possess.

Obliged to maintain peace
Order ensures maximum efficiency and quality. If a fight breaks out, extinguish it. If an argument breaks out, mediate it. Everyone's business if your business in the instance of an uncivil disagreement. Failure to maintain order in a situation is to allow chaos to enter your life. Chaos causes suffering; order causes happiness.

Obliged to respect the angels, the ancients, and the ancestors
Remember those who have come before you and those who watch over you. It is their sacrifices which have made your life possible. Be respectful of statues, monuments, or other religious artifacts, even if they are not of your beliefs. Remember the good things of an ancestor; dwelling on negative emotions toward the deceased will only lead to more suffering in your life.

Obliged to respect your elders, your peers, your children, and our posterity
Listen to your elders, for they are filled with years of wisdom. Listen to your peers, for they are usually in similar situations and might offer a different perspective. Listen to your children, for even though they lack experience, they remind you of the more liberal ideas of your youth. And listen to the young, for their innocence offers an objective and optimistic perspective.

Obliged to save lives and to contribute to humanity
If someone is in economic trouble, help them. The continuation of life undisrupted ensures order. Give to money to charity and volunteer your time to the needing. If you neighbor's car breaks, offer them a ride. When you are in need you will get help because you have helped others.

Obliged to eliminate the cruelty
In this instance, a person is required to do as much as possible to stop others for being unnecessarily rude to others. This cruelty extends beyond the simple act of rudeness. One should be kind to one’s peers and to nature. Disrespecting the world around us, like killing animals just for their fur, will lead to the demise of the spirit.

Obliged to protect the oppressed and help the weak
Take a stand against all who oppress others. When you know someone is being held down by others, you are obligated to step in and defend that person. It does not matter if you instigate into someone else’s business. You must do what you must to protect those from being hurt. Explain why their actions are not allowed.

Obliged to be chivalrous and generous
Every time someone asks to be let into traffic, let them in. Open the door for everyone and help people when they are obviously struggling. Give as much money to charity as you can.

Obliged to correct wrongdoings courageously
If you are wrong, apologize and make up for your wrongdoing with equal or more effort than is necessary to make up the wrongdoing. If you break something, repair it or buy a new one. If you make a wrong action, apologize and be charitable. If you are wrong in an argument, offer an official apology. If something is being done wrong towards you, be able to explain why it is wrong and what should be done instead. Do not let the wrongdoing continue; it will only grow exponentially.

Obliged to overcome calamity
Dwelling on what has been lost will only cause you to lose yourself. There is a bright side to all disasters, embrace it, and move on. Life goes on and so will you.

Obliged to devotedly train all who ask
If someone is interested in a skill you possess, you should offer your skill to them. The sharing of knowledge is what makes a society grow.

Obliged to build up a strong healthy body
Eat right and exercise regularly. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Know your body’s capabilities and practice to achieve remarkable martial art skills.

Obliged to learn self-defense
Do not always rely on others for aid. You need to know how to protect yourself and what is important to you, whether that is martial arts or packing money away for hard times.

Obliged to be humble and soft spoken
Do not be rude to others. Do not order people to do things. Asks politely and speak to others politely. Do not become angry or annoyed with others who might become irrational. Be kind and respond rashly.

Obliged to be unbashful in seeking advise for knowledge
If you do not know something, asks. Asking questions is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of wanting to know more.

Obliged to develop self control
Develop control over your own impulses and maintain that control for life. Lust is not an admirable quality and its facets must be continuously under your conscious control. Self control prevents harms to others as well as harm to yourself.

Obliged to be co-operative and helpful
Work well with others, even those who want to go it alone. Explain to them how helpful you can be and contribute equally to the project. Do not argue over who is right and who is wrong, but rather think about the problem at hand and discuss your points of view.

Obliged to refrain from intoxicants which lead to carelessness
Simply, do not drink alcohol or ingest any drugs which cause you to lose control over your body. Simple caffeine and minor stimulants are fine, as well as pain killers, but do not unnecessarily medicate yourself or others and remain as free as possible from drug usage.

Obliged to obtain knowledge of the truth
Always strive to find the truth behind everything. Maintain an unquenchable desire for truth and wisdom. Always seek knowledge and never stop learning. There is no way to learn everything out there, but you should keep learning and strive to improve yourself daily. Do something new each day; take classes whenever possible.

Obliged to resist evil
Never fall into the clutches of evil. Do not let anyone fall to evil. Always embrace the good in everything and resist the urges of evil. Look at the good that comes out of an event and do not dwell upon the bad.

Obliged to hold a job that does not injure others
Serve no one who brings harm to others willingly. Do not employ yourself to a profession where you have rationalized injuring others except through self-defense. Do not willingly bring about harm to others based on a hunch or a willing argument.

Obliged to free one's mind of evil
Strive to fight all evil as best as you can. Remove evil thoughts as soon as they enter your mind. If these thoughts plague you, seek counseling and reconciliation.

Obliged to practice proper forms of concentration
Study only things that are good and do not waste time chasing silly fantasies. Develop good practices of meditation and bring about new and innovative ideas during that meditation.
